Susan Harbourt writes for young readers from a historic 1869 lighthouse on Lake Superior, which she and her husband bought on impulse and are restoring while raising their family on Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula.

Her travels through England, Italy, and Greece became Bella's: a curious cat who visits all three and hands children something to do when she arrives.

When she is not writing, she makes award-winning jewelry from stones she finds and polishes herself along Superior's shores.
