Privacy
This is a small press run by one person, and this page is written the way I would explain it to you in an email. No legal padding.
The short version
I collect your email address if you give it to me, and I count visits to the site so I know which books people are looking at. That is all. I do not sell anything about you to anyone, I do not run advertising here, and I never see your card details.
Just reading the site
Browsing sets no cookies of mine. Nothing is stored on your device until you either add something to a cart or fill in a form.
I do use Google Analytics to count visits, and it sets its own cookies in your browser to work out whether you are a new visitor or a returning one. What I see from it are numbers: how many people came, which pages they read, roughly what country they were in. I cannot see who you are, and I have never tried to.
The cart
Adding something to your cart stores one cookie, named prp_cart. It holds an ID
that points at your cart on Wix, nothing else, and it lasts thirty days. It cannot be read by
anything running in the page, which is deliberate. No cart, no cookie.
Buying something
Payment is handled by Wix. Your card details go to the payment processor and never to me. I see what you bought, your name and your email address, because I have to in order to send you the file and help if something goes wrong.
The newsletter and the free coloring pages
If you sign up, I store your first name, your email address, the topics you ticked, and how often you said you wanted to hear from me. The topics are the entire point: they are what stops somebody who wanted children's coloring books from being sent witchy fiction.
If you asked for a free pack, I also record which book you wanted the pages from, so I know what to send you next. There is an unsubscribe link on every email and it works immediately.
Links to Amazon and other shops
Some books are sold on Amazon rather than here, and those links carry a tag that earns me a small commission at no extra cost to you. That is the disclosure in the footer of every page.
Nothing from Amazon runs on this site. The link is an ordinary link, and Amazon only knows anything about you once you click it and land on their site, where their privacy policy applies and mine stops.
Who else can see this
- Wix holds the books, the contacts and the store, and processes payments.
- Google Analytics receives the visit counts described above.
- Netlify serves the site and keeps ordinary server logs.
Those are companies I pay to run things I could not run myself. Nobody else gets anything.
What email you might get from me
Three kinds. Everything except a receipt carries an unsubscribe link, and saying no once stops it for good.
- Things you asked for. A receipt and a download link when you buy something. The free pages when you request them. You cannot unsubscribe from a receipt, and you would not want to.
- Things you ticked. The newsletter, on the topics you chose, which is also how you would hear about a new book. Never a topic you did not tick.
- A follow-up on something you actually did here. If you download free pages, I might ask a week or so later how they turned out, and point you at a book from the same line. If you buy something, I might ask whether it printed all right and whether you would leave a review. If you leave a cart behind, you might get a reminder about it. These are always about something you did on this site, they are always short, and I do not chase.
That third kind is the one that will grow as the press does, so here is the rule it is held to rather than a list that goes stale: I only follow up on something you did here, I keep it brief, and one unsubscribe ends all of it. Anything that does not fit that description is not something I send.
I never bought your address from anyone, and I never will. And I never offer anything in exchange for a review, which is both against the rules of every store that carries these books and the kind of thing that ends a small publisher.
What I do not do
- I do not sell, rent or trade your information. Not to anyone, not ever.
- I do not run advertising or retargeting pixels on this site. Nothing here follows you around the internet showing you ads afterward.
- I do not follow what you read here to build a profile of you. If I suggest a book, it is because of a topic you ticked or a set of free pages you asked for, not because something watched where you went.
If that first one ever changes, it changes here first. Selling your data is a line I will not cross. The advertising one is a choice rather than a principle, and if I ever add an advertising pixel this page says so before it goes live, not after. A privacy policy that quietly stops being true is worse than never having written one.
About cookie banners
You will notice this site does not throw a cookie banner at you. That is a deliberate choice, not an oversight. The only cookies here are the analytics ones and the cart, and I would rather explain them on a page you can read than interrupt you before you have seen anything.
If you would prefer not to be counted at all, any browser's private mode or a tracker blocker will stop the analytics, and the site works exactly the same.
Your choices
Email Susan@PortageRiverPress.com and ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. You are dealing with me, not a help desk, and I will do it. You do not need a reason and you do not need to be in any particular country to ask.
Children
Some of these books are for children, but they are bought by grown-ups. This site is not intended for children to use, and I do not knowingly collect anything from one. If you think a child has signed up, email me and I will remove it.
If this changes
If I ever add anything that collects more than what is described here, this page changes on the same day. The date below is the honest one.
