What the series is
A hundred years ago something was bargained for on this water, and the lake keeps what it is given. Every keeper of the Greenstone Light since has been paying it down. Every one of them has learned what the water collects instead of money, and who it takes it from.
Nell Korhonen spent more than thirty years refusing all of it. She comes home at fifty-two to bury her mother and sell the light, and the first stone she picks up off her mother’s workbench shows her a death the town has called an accident for thirty-five years.
